Our servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people...[Oh God] give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong (1 Kings 3: 8-9, NIV).
With a high sense of humility, I want to take this opportunity to express my unreserved gratitude to God Almighty for His undeserved mercy and grace. I would like to thank our Ekid community for having elected me at its 8th Biennial Convention in Houston on May 6, 2016, as President of Eket Development Congress USA, Inc. (EDC). This is an honor for which I will ever remain grateful and indebted.
I am also appreciative of the numerous congratulatory messages I have received from individuals, organizations, groups, and various Akwa Ibom State communities at home and in Diaspora and their pledges of solidarity with Ekid people. Moreover, I want to thank the outgoing administration under the able leadership Mr. Chris Oduok. My administration will build upon his work in our collective quest to move EDC forward.
I consider my election as President of EDC USA, Inc. a challenging responsibility at this critical time for Ekid community in Diaspora. It is my fervent hope that, as a result of this, all hands will be on deck to strengthen and reinvigorate our organization for the benefit of our people. The Holy Scripture in the book of Ecclesiastes says that there is a season for everything under the sun. For EDC, I dare say, this is a season for renewal and unity!
No single person can build an organization and/or singlehandedly achieve the goals of any organization. All organizations are as strong as the commitment of all its members. Ekid people must recommit themselves to reigniting the lofty spirit that inspired founding of EDC. I am calling upon all Ekid people in Diaspora to embrace the lofty spirit of togetherness and unity that will help us to recommit ourselves to the challenging tasks of renewing EDC. Since we returned from the EDC Convention to our various homes, I have reached out to some of you to join hearts and hands with me in moving our organization forward. I will also continue to reach out to the rest of you very soon as we embark on the collective journey of renewal and unity.
EDC does not belong to a single person, because a single person does not constitute any organization. EDC was founded for all Ekid people. As such the organization belongs to all of us. If you want EDC to be an organization of your dream, then you must help to bring about its renewal. If you were previously a member and are not active now for whatever reason, we need you and encourage you to renew your membership. If you did not join EDC previously because you thought your ideas would not count, we need you because we know you can make a difference. If you are an active member, we salute you for your patriotism and need you to continue serving with the purpose of helping to renew and sustain EDC.
With your hard work for and commitment to the challenging spirit of renewal, our EDC will emerge stronger and Ekid people will become more united and prouder. In our singular quest and commitment to renewing EDC, we must pledge that we are all in!
Long Live EDC USA, Inc!
Long Live Akwa Ibom State!!
Long Live Nigeria!!!
